Robert A. (Bob) Williams, Sr., age 85, passed from this earth on Monday, January 31st, 2022. Bob was born in Macon, Georgia on June 11th, 1936. As a young child he moved to Mobile where he attended and graduated from Murphy High School. Bob continued his education at the University of Alabama and earned his master’s degree in Business Management at Syracuse University. He began working at Mobile Paint Company as a retail salesclerk in 1954. Hard work and determination led him to progress through the ranks of the Company where he named Vice President of Sales in 1975. In 1978, he was elected to the Board of Directors and named Executive Vice President. In 1984, he was elected President and CEO of Mobile Paint Mfg. Company. Bob retired in 2011 and assumed the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Bob held many local leadership roles with Non-Profit Organizations which included: Volunteers of America SE, Salvation Army, the Mobile County Department of Human Resources, Junior Achievement, Mobile Works, Better Business Bureau, Goodwill Industries, Mobile Sales & Marketing Club, Rotary Club – Sunrise and the Boy Scouts.
Bob was involved in various National Trade Associations connected with Mobile Paint and was also a long-time member of 2 Mystic Society’s.
Bob was preceded in death by his father John H. Williams Sr., his mother Mary Williams, his brother John H. Williams Jr., and his sister Peggy Hunnicutt. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mickey (Antionette) Williams. Left to cherish his memory are his brother Gene Williams (Glenda), his two sons Robert A. Williams Jr. and Ronald M. Williams (Elsa) and his only grandchild Isabella; along with many other loving relatives, lifelong friends, and caregivers.
Visitation will be held, Friday March 4th at Radney’s Funeral Home on Dauphin Street from 5 to 8 pm. We’ll celebrate Bob’s life Saturday, March 5th at 11:00 am with a Memorial Service at Radney’s Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. The gravesite service is reserved for the family.
