

Ronald Louis Fillingim was born in Mobile, Alabama to the parents of (Raymond Fillingim and M. Louise Buckhaults). Ronald attended Auburn University. Ronald served in the U S Navy as a Naval Aviator from 1963 to 1985 as training pilot in Milton, FL; flying P3 Orions, and C-118’s before retiring in Pensacola, Florida as a Lt. Commander. Ronald had the opportunity to travel all over the globe with duty stations in Japan, Hawaii, Iceland, San Diego, and Pensacola to name a few. He loved his family, his pets, and helping his community through his church and other charitable endeavors. He was a respected soccer coach and referee for many years. Ronald loved the outdoors and once embarked on a cross country bike ride from Dauphin Island, AL to Jacksonville, FL making stops along the way to take in the sights. He loved flying, drawing, painting, and particularly carving. Ronald could take any ordinary stick or block of wood, and make it into a work of art. He was a man of the world and considered himself a philosopher. He loved science, anything having to do with computers, cars, and learning about new things.
Ronald was married to his wonderful wife, Patricia Ann Fillingim, for 59 years, and they had the opportunity to live in many exciting places over the years, before finally retiring and settling in Dauphin Island, Alabama. Ronald and Patricia had three children, Kelly Noelle Moore (Richard J. Moore), and twin sons, Christopher Charles Fillingim (Shari Sahli) and Timothy Michael Fillingim (1995).
Ronald loved animals and one of his favorites was a red Saluki named Shaughnessy. He loved that dog, and they were inseparable. He taught him many tricks, but one of his best was having him greet people at the door by gently wrapping his mouth around an unsuspecting guest’s wrist to present them to Ronald and Patricia.
Ronald was very involved in his community and particularly the church, and he was always ready and willing to provide a hug, a smile, wise counsel, and a helping hand. Ronald was a practical joker and was always planning and executing elaborate jokes on his friends and family.
Ronald loved cars, particularly his green Datsun 260Z. He spent many hours in it going back and forth to work from Pensacola to Daytona on a weekly basis.
Ronald was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Fillingim, Jr. and his son, Timothy Michael Fillingim.
Visitation for Ronald will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a Celebration of Life immediately following. Inurnment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
