Wife of 43 years to Robert “Rocky” Miller, with whom she traveled with throughout his 24 year military career. She opened Rosie’s Fashions in 1982. Rosie is survived by loving family members including daughters, Robbie Miller, Terri Smith and Crystal Miller; grandchildren, Robert Chase Pittman, Alyssa (Ally) Rose Miller, Nathan Zane Hickox and her heart of hearts, her great granddaughter Kaylee Simone Pittman. Rosie was “mee maw” to busloads of children over the decades. She survived her 10 Bates brothers and sisters, Jack, Ed, Wilse, Bill, Alvin, Pete, Willi Lorraine, Mattie, Lucille and Jonnibelle. Christmas was Rosie’s favorite holiday. She shared food and gifts with so many through the entire month of December. Her gift giving continued through the following year as she would discover forgotten gift caches! Rosie loved to make everyone’s birthdays special. Employees always received cakes and gifts. She would sew beautiful costumes for her children to wear in the floral parade during Mardi Gras. She loved the Lord, was generous to a fault, a firm believer in redemption and that there is good in every single person. She established one of the first integrated Girl Scout troops in California in the 1960’s while Rocky was stationed at camp Pendleton. She avidly supported the band programs of Terri, Crystal and Alyssa. She enjoyed casino runs. There was terrific talent in her water color artistry. Her legendary okra, mashed potatoes, chicken and dumplings, stir fry and numerous other comfort food dishes will be sorely missed. Around Rosie, no one went hungry. From rural roots, she had great reverence for wild life. Many dogs and cats through the years were fortunate to own her! She was proud to share scuppernongs from her extensive arbor. Rosie enjoyed the great meals and relationships at Judy’s.
Rosie was fiercely proud of Crystal’s nursing accomplishments. She enjoyed and was buoyed by Terri’s incredible sense of humor and positive outlook in everything including life’s lemons. She was always intrigued by Robin’s story telling and having pictures for every story she told. For many years Katherine Sanders has been both a stead fast friend, business manager and a big part of Rosie’s life. Rosie was driven to establish and grow Rosie’s Fashion Center. Her decisions over the 33 years did just that. She deferred her success to her beloved Rocky as “The Wind Beneath Her Wings”. She has many customers across many generations for whom she had much appreciation. Prom and Pageant girls grew into brides and ball quests and who now bring their daughter’s to Rosie’s from many States. She is well known, loved by many and will be sadly missed. The Miller family is especially grateful to Crown of Springhill Rehab whose staff members displayed intense professionalism and extraordinary compassion beyond duty in caring for Rosie. Also, special thanks are extended to the staff at Providence Hospital who worked toward her recovery this year. Of particular note, in ER and Cardiac’s individual staffers who diligently found many ways to comfort our family. The family much appreciates Scott Perkins, a former neighbor to Rosie whose vigilance for her safety and odd assortment of needs gave the Miller family great piece of mind. Lastly, Newman’s Ambulance Service with its sterling teams of gentle, caring individuals, we thank each of you. Rosie’s family was blessed to have called her its matriarch. Heart water flows as we say “Goodbye” until we join her in our Savior’s arms. A celebration of her life will be on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 12 noon till service time at 2 O’clock at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street officiated by Dr. Wesley Mott. After the committal at Serenity Gardens the Miller family would like to invite friends to join them at the VFW at 3354 Hamilton Blvd. Theodore, Al (251) 443-8265 for a time of fellowship and remembrance. In Lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Church of Rosie’s beloved pastor, Fred Wolfe at Luke 4:18 Fellowship 2264 Sollie Rd. Mobile, Al 36695 (251) 281-1418
