Russell Joseph Farber Sr., age 84, of Mobile, Alabama passed away on Sunday November 18, 2018. Russell was born February 17, 1934 in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania to Anna May Harkins Farber and Francis William Farber. He served in United States Air Force during the Korean War, discharged honorably from active service at Brookley Field in Jan 1957, then four years inactive reserve, final discharge 31 January 1961 as Airman 2C. Born and raised in Tamaqua, PA, moved back to Mobile, Alabama in May 1958. He was employed by MAWSS for over 20 years, and was awarded a plaque for his distinguished service several years after his retirement.
Russell is survived by his ex-wife, Carol (Neil) Dean; grandchildren, Sara Tankersley, Benjamin Tankersley, and Trevor Wallace; great-grandson, Tobi Kai Tankersley; sisters, Dorothy Wadyak and Theresa Englert; step-daughters, Brenda (Lonnie) Messer and Darla Scott; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Francis William Farber and Anna May Harkins Farber; children, Vivien Farber Long and Russell Farber, Jr.; sister, Kathryn Minrod; brothers Daniel, Frances, nicholas, Vincent, John, Eddie, Thomas, and Ralph Farber; step-son Joseph W. Williamson, Jr.
A graveside service for Russell will occur Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at 12:30 a.m. at Alabama State Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 34904 State Highway 225, Spanish Fort, Alabama, 36527 with interment to follow.
