
Sara Jane Pierson Megginson (Sally) died peacefully on April 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Sally was born on March 8, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up in Huntington, West Virginia. She attended the University of Alabama where she met her husband of sixty-three years, A. Greer Megginson, MD. Sally was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma while at the University where she made many lifelong friends. Sally moved to Mobile in 1970 after Greer finished medical school and his subsequent training and remained a resident of this city for the rest of her life. Sally loved her family and, in particular, spending time with them at a family home in Point Clear where she spent many happy years. She especially treasured preparing and delivering for Meals on Wheels and the ministry of knitting prayer shawls.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents Etta Jane Pierson and Harry Pierson.
Sally is survived by her husband Greer and three beautiful daughters, Sara Jane Megginson Holt (Bob), Missy Megginson Cunningham (Randle), and Greer Megginson Helmsing (Fred). Additionally, Sally is survived by her nine grandchildren: Ali McDonald, Andrew McDonald, Troup R. Cunningham, III (Mason), John Wallace Cunningham (Flavia), Greer Cunningham, Bradley (Connor), Sara Margaret Helmsing, Frederick Helmsing, III, and Joseph Helmsing, her great grandson, James Redding, her sister-in-law, Betty Jean Megginson and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The Family would like to thank Thomas Marsh, Mittie Binion and Sarah Hinkle for taking care of Sally. Visitation was held at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church on April 6, 2023, at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, 1507 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama 36604.
