She is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Dorothy McClellan, her brother Thomas McClellan, her husband Joseph J. Micare, and her son-in-law Keith Grant.
Shar was born in Troy, NY on July 16, 1943, and grew up across the Hudson River in Watervliet, NY. She graduated from Vincentian Institute in Albany, NY, and Hudson Valley Community College where she earned a degree to be a dental hygienist, a job she held for many years, working for Dr. Passaretti and Dr. McDonald in New York, and handling insurance claims for Dr. McClintock and Dr. Welford in Mobile.
In 1983 she moved with her family to Mobile because of her husband’s job as a federal Administrative Law Judge. She was active in the New Mobilians Club, where she once reigned as the Queen of their Mardi Gras ball. Shar also had many hobbies, including traveling (particularly to Ireland—her ancestors came from County Laois and County Offaly—and Italy), reading, and playing bridge. The consummate “Nana,” most of all, Shar enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and their families and friends. A devout Roman Catholic her entire life, Shar was a communicant at Corpus Christi Church.
Shar is survived by her son Shawn (Damjana) O’Hare; daughter Meghan O’Hare Grant; stepdaughters Jan Micare (Carl) Spongberg and Gina Micare; brother Edward (Patricia) McClellan; grandchildren Brandon (Julia) Grant, Justin (Alisha Mose) Grant, Hanna, and Katelyn Spongberg, Samuel, Jack, and Alexander O’Hare; great-grandson Mason Mose; and a number of special nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, most notably Helen Messmer.
A Memorial Service will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Thursday, April 15 at 10 a.m. and streamed on www.facebook.com/RadneyMobile/.
In lieu of flowers, and considering the many charities Shar supported, the family asks that mourners donate to the charity of their choice.
