Sharon Dougan Crabtree was born in Cleveland, OH on March 28, 1947. She was raised in a military family that traveled all over the world. Her family settled in Norfolk, VA. She graduated high school and went on to work as a finance officer for the civil service. This is where she met her husband, then 1LT Donald J. Crabtree. After the long engagement of six weeks, they were married November 23, 1973, and remained married for 48 years.
In October of 1978, their daughter, Cynthia Lynn, was born. They continued to travel the world as a family – to Europe, Asia, and too many other states to mention. IN 1992, the wandering ceased and the family settled in Mobile, AL.
Sharon enjoyed collecting everywhere she went. She was a large Collector of Lladros figurines and paintings. She enjoyed showing her collections to everyone who visited. The one thing everyone remembers the most about Sharon, was her friendly nature. She never met a stranger, no matter where she went.
After a ten year battle with Alzheimer’s, she peacefully passed away at home with her family by her side.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, LTC (retired) William A. Dougan and Wilma H. Dougan; and her twin brother, William “Sonny” Dougan.
She is survived by her husband, LTC (retired) Donald J. Crabtree; daughter, Cindy L. (Stephen) Baker; granddaughter, Kaitlyn N. Norton; and cousin, Gary Dalton of Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Visitation for Sharon will be held on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, AL, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
