Shirley Dolan Holland

Shirley Dolan Holland, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 8, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born to James W. Dolan, Jr. and Doris Sanford Pickett on December 17, 1948 in Pascagoula, Mississippi, but lived her entire life in Mobile, Alabama. Shirley was small and mighty – she was the boss to all around. She was very mischievous and funny. Shirley was a barber by trade for over fifteen years. She was incredibly creative and inventive. Shirley loved projects, loved to sew, and loved to craft. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and will be greatly missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, James W. Dolan, Jr. and Doris Sanford Pickett; as well as two brothers, James W. Dolan, III and Julian “Mack” Rucker.

She is survived by her devoted husband, George T. Holland; daughter, Shannon Fisher Kern (Mark); step-daughter, Jennifer Holland Griffin (Clancy); granddaughters, Sara Dolan Kern, Emma Francis Kern, and Julia Ann Kern; siblings, Barbara D. Nelson (Glenn), Beth Dolan, and Christian Dolan; sisters-in-law, Lucy Chiesa, Diane Roe (Lee), Nancy Holland, and Penny Edy; brother-in-law, Eddy Holland; along with many nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
