

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Shirley Holland Lane, who left this world peacefully on September 10, 2025, four days short of her 90th birthday. A memorial service will be held at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 13, 2025, followed by a reception at McGowin Hall.
Shirley was born on September 14, 1935, in Dyersburg, TN. She attended Dyersburg High School and then graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Memphis State University. She was married to the love of her life, Dr. Thomas C. Lane, for 55 years prior to his death in 2013. She worked as a teacher in the early years of their marriage. In 1978, she began a long and successful career in real estate, culminating in creating and becoming a joint owner of her own real estate firm. Shirley built a legacy of love through her devotion to family, enduring friendships and generous heart.
Shirley was engaged in continuous service to her church, Dauphin Way United Methodist, where she was involved in multiple committees and ministries for 55 years. Shirley also found joy in playing tennis and bridge. She was nearing a personal goal of achieving the rank of life master in bridge just prior to her stroke in 2017.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Dr. LeRoy Holland and Mary Rickman Holland, her brothers, LeRoy Holland, James B. Holland, John Rickman Holland, Charles Donald Holland, sister Martha Rebecca Holland and grandson James Rickman Lane. She is survived by her children Mary Elizabeth Shelton (Bill) of Cataula, Georgia, Dr. John Martin Lane (Joan) of Florence, Alabama and Dr. Daniel Richard Lane, Sr. (Tracey) of Mobile, her grandchildren, Andrew Thomas Young (Kathryn), Katherine Lane Coulter (Cody), Thomas Jackson Lane, Jeffrey Daniel Lane, Anne Holland Lane, Mary Elizabeth Lane, Daniel Richard Lane, Jr., Mary Elise Lane, Anna Ruth Lane, and great-grandchildren Emilia Frances Young, Lainey Lee Coulter and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
