Shirley Nadine Pope, 85, passed away at her home in Semmes, Alabama on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. She was born to Mattie and Alonzo Sharp on April 6, 1936 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Shirley was an office manager for JCPenney for many years, as well as a home health aide for SAAD’s. She had a great love for Jesus Christ, and enjoyed spending time at her church Tanner Williams Holiness – where she was a member for over 20 years. Shirley loved her family, and they were the great treasure of her life. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Shirley was a beautiful soul, and will be greatly missed. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Pope. She is survived by her sons, Jason Pope (Stephanie) and Glenn Slate; daughter, Glenna Nadine Slate; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; as well a host of numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends. Visitation for Shirley will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Our Mother Our mother is a woman like no other. She gave us life, nurtured us, taught us, dressed us, fought for us, held us, shouted at us, kissed us, but most importantly loved us unconditionally. There are not enough words we can say to describe just how important our mother was to us, and what a powerful influence she continues to be… Mother, We Love You.
