
Stanley Thomas Smith, Jr. passed away after a lengthy battle with bladder cancer on Friday, July 5, 2013. Mr. Smith was a retired journeyman electrician. He was a graduate of the University Military School and was trained as a journeyman electrician by the I.B.E.W. and was a lifelong member of Local 505 International Brotherhood of Electricians. He assisted as an electrician on the installation of the first computer in Mobile and supervised the installation of the first kidney dialysis machine in Mobile. He was a longtime member of Springhill Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was an avid deep sea fisherman and breeder of pedigree golden retrievers in partnership with his wife as BarStan Kennels. He was a longtime amateur radio operator and member of the Mobile Amateur Radio Club. KG4JNX has gone “Silent Key”. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Ruby Smith. He is survived by his wife Barbara Inzer Smith, children; Elaine Smith Barefield St.John and Philip Alan Smith (Renee); grandchildren; Alison Claire Barefield, Bradley Wetheringon Barefield, Phillip Alan Smith, Jr, Andrew Leland Smith, Daniel Wayne Blenis, Rachel Renee Blenis and Matthew Lee Blenis. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home Dauphin Street on Monday, July 8, 2013 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the chapel on Monday at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Palestine Baptist Church Cemetery.
