Steve grew up in Asheville, North Carolina, with his parents Evelyn Gregory Crawford and Irvin Cooper Crawford. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Duke University before his distinguished, decades-long career at Hand Arendall law firm in Mobile.
Steve’s legacy of integrity, professional excellence, and service to others leaves an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was a respected member of the community, serving on numerous philanthropic and civic boards. He enjoyed playing tennis with the regulars, solving the most difficult crosswords, swimming in the Gulf, gathering in the afternoon with his many friends, and riding his bike as often as possible. Though his professional successes were many, he would always say his proudest accomplishment was his family including his four daughters and their spouses: Amanda Dexter (Kendall), Katherine Pitman (Skipper), Elizabeth Josephs (Eric), and Caroline Crawford (Ben Baiamonte); his grandchildren: Margaret Duran (Spencer), Dailey Dexter, Alice Phillips, Crawford Phillips, Lucille Josephs, and Arthur Josephs; and his six-week-old great-grandson, Perry Duran. They will remember him for his thoughtfulness, curiosity, clever retorts, unmatched wisdom, and unwavering loyalty.
A service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church at 11:00AM on Friday, November 8th, followed by a lunch reception in the parish hall. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
