Sylvia Warrick Spann was born in Dothan, Alabama in 1935 and died April 16, 2014 in Mobile, Alabama. She was a graduate of Dothan High School and attended the University of Alabama, the University of South Alabama where she earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education, and the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned a Ph. D. in Adult Education. She was on the faculty of the University of South Alabama for twenty-seven years and retired as Professor of Education. She was married to James Norman Spann for fifty years and who predeceased her. She is survived by three sons: Jay Spann(Melissa), Chris Spann and Scott Spann(Melissa); grandchildren: Jacob Spann (Erica), Turner Spann (Laura), Brittany Fortner (Zac), Roni, Kiley, Sydney and Anna-Scott Spann and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Cynthia Warrick (John Folts) and Susan Mason, brother Heywood Warrick (Gayle), and aunt Katherine Oliver.
