Thelma Namias Collins, longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away October 27, 2022 surrounded by many of her loved ones. Thelma was born December 2, 1930 and grew up in Pass Christian and Bay St. Louis Mississippi. She was the daughter of Walter A. Namias and Margaret Pinke Namias.
Thelma was married to Fred G. Collins October 7, 1950, until his death in 2003. Fred and Thelma were among the founding members of St. Dominic’s Church and Parish on Burma Road in Mobile and remained faithful members the remainder of their lives.
Thelma was affectionately known as “Muh” (pronounced ‘muh’), Grandmuh, Aunt Thelma, or simply Thelma by many.
Thelma and Fred managed to have eight children who love each other very much, who enjoy laughing and caring together as they were taught by Muh: Cathy Collins (Robbie Wolff), Susan Collins (Ed Dean), Carolyn Collins Davidson (Glenn) Rick Collins (Kim), Linda Collins Jensen (Brad), Patrick Collins (Darlene), Laurie Collins Kilpatrick (John) and Joe Collins (Amy).
Grandmuh loved her seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren tremendously: William Collins-Dean (Hollie, Nolan and Parker), Edward Collins Dean, Daniel Collins-Dean, Mary Clayton Rach (Jimmy, James and Lottie), Trey Collins (Kathleen, Frederick and Thomas), Liz Davidson, Jack Davidson, Karen Jensen, Alex Jensen, Grace Jensen, Jacob Collins, Natalie Collins, Owen Kilpatrick, Henry Kilpatrick, Kate Kilpatrick, Matt Collins and Harris Collins.
Thelma is survived by her two sisters, Carolyn Witzen of Summerfield, Florida and Cheryl Hagendorn of Sarasota, Florida, and the three visited regularly, stirring up trouble on a consistent basis. She had many, many friends who she loved and helped during her long life – too many to list, but they know.
One could summarize Grandmuh’s life as follows: “Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your master.” Matthew 25:21
