Thelma’s life was guided by her deep faith, unwavering kindness, and the warmth she extended to everyone she encountered. She loved her extended family and the innumerable friends who filled her life.
She was born on September 22nd,1927 in Yarbo, Alabama. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Gilley, her husband Victor Thomas Lomers and sister Edith Ross.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Thomas Lomers, his wife, Elaine Leslie, grandson, William, granddaughter Melissa Elliott, her husband Jay as well as great grandsons Jonah, Luke, and Isaac.
She is also survived by her sister, Patricia McKee, her husband Jay and their children, John, David and Jennifer and her great nieces and nephews. Thelma is also survived by her brother, Edward, his wife, Teresa and his children Lee and Lauren as well as her great nieces and nephews.
Thelma loved Ediths’ children, Lynn Helton and Laura Pranger, as her own. Her husband, Victor’s extended family were always a special part of her life. Thelma skipped the 11th grade and graduated from Washington County High School in 1945. She went on to a career as the cheerful voice of Merchants National Bank in Mobile, Al. She retired after 39 ½ years. Thelma married Victor on September 21st, 1946, at St John’s Episcopal church in Mobile, AL. She loved her church home and remained a lifelong member.
Thelma enjoyed playing Bunco with friends who through the years became like sisters. They vacationed together and supported each other through life’s joys and sorrows. She loved summers at their beach cottage on Little Lagoon in Gulf Shores. She and Victor hosted many family members and friends to their vacation spot where Victor delighted in teaching people to water ski. Thelma loved shopping and would spend many delightful hours locating the perfect outfit or gift. She hosted countless family celebrations with Thanksgiving being one of her favorite holidays. Her home would be overflowing with friends, family and wonderful food. Thelma always tried to spend time with everyone at a gathering. She loved interacting with people and showed a real interest in their lives.
Thelma was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves us with many memories of a life well lived. Father John Talbert from Saint John’s Episcopal Church will conduct the graveside service. Serving as pall bearers will be William Lomers, Jay Elliott, Jonah Elliott, Edward Gilley, Everett Lewis, and Jeffrey Garner. Honorary pall bearers are Steve Garner, Carl Lomers, Luke Elliott, and Isaac Elliott.
