Farewell, my Best Friend…
Theresa, you loved your angels… their figures and medallions are all over our house, in our car and truck. Angels hold a special meaning for you… Angels like your beloved Mom and Dad, Thelma and Timothy. Your own, very special Angel, our son Michael left us after only days on earth. He patiently awaits your mother’s embrace. You no longer need to bring him fresh toys to his resting place in New York; you can forever hold him in your loving arms. I must be content to refresh them on my own.
Our friend and Pastor, Father Pat Arensberg, anointed you and blessed you with our Catholic Faith’s Last Rites. Father Mark Neske of Holy Family also anointed you during your care. I will be eternally grateful to them for providing the blessing of our Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit that guides us all. You are immediately welcomed to your Heavenly Home.
Our friends will visit with you at your home called “The Ranch” on Saturday, March 21, at 9:30 AM with your Memorial Mass following at 10.
Someday I will bring you to rest with your Mom, Dad and Michael in New York. I will also keep you for myself so that I can also rejoin you when God says, “Allan, it’s your turn now.”
Our sons, Kieth and Peter, try to contain their sadness at what is really a joyous event. We shared our love and sadness over these past days and will someday share our joy at your new life though still tempered by sorrow that never completely fades. I know what it’s like I left a Mom, a Dad and Brother too. It’s not easy; it is very hard but necessary… for death is an essential part of life.
Your eager assistance was always welcome at the New Mobilians and Assistance League here in town. Both the McGill-Toolin Band and Southwind Drum Corps appreciated years of your dedication as Band and Corps Mom at rehearsals, fundraisers and performance venues both near and far.
Alia will comfort our granddaughters Ryan (you nicknamed her “Mike” after our beloved son Michael) and Ayla (your “Zany Girl”). They will sorely miss you gentle kiss and caress. We have to remember that we really don’t leave you behind, but just have to keep on going, to catch up with you and all those who leave us with so much love, so many questions, thoughts, memories and moments.
Dear, Theresa, know that all your family, many dear friends and I love and so terribly miss you. I loved just simply holding your hand. You told me so many times that I could always make you laugh. Your smile is so infectious. I see our photos and cry from the painful hole in my heart. I will always regret that I couldn’t save your life for my own comfort and for the continued enjoyment of so many. I realize that almost all of my friends are through you. Without you by my side, I am lost.
There will always be a place for you at the Mahjong table and we will miss you at every game of Hand and Foot. I will cry for your absence every day and am so sad that you will not enjoy the new Jags stadium we so anticipated. We really loved simple pleasures. I force myself to know that painful sorrow is somehow happy since you now are at peaceful rest. Your loveliest face and beautiful smile bless us all.
You are the love of my life, and my very best friend. I wander alone, longing to “See ya later…”
Allan
