Lieutenant Thomas Paul Menton, M.P.D. - A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, AL died Monday, October 8, 2012. Lt. Menton began his career with the Mobile Police Department in 1974 as a Junior Policeman and in 1980 as a cadet. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant serving the City of Mobile in the Patrol Division, the Youth Services Division, the Traffic Enforcement Unit, and most recently as Commander of the Central Events Precinct on Dauphin Street and the Mobile Police Department Mounted Unit.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Joseph Menton, Sr.; one sister, Carmen Elena Menton; two brothers, John Samuel Menton and Francis A. "Frank" Menton; and his grandmother, Rosario B. "Nana" Santana. He is survived by his mother, Carmen Santana Menton; three sisters, Grace M. (Bob) Overmeyer, Mary Jane Menton, and Regina Menton; three brothers, William J. (Patricia) Menton, Jr., Edward C. (Brenda) Menton, and Charles M. "Chip" Menton; his nieces and nephews, Robert M. (Kimberly) Overmeyer, Jr., John P. Overmeyer, Ashley O. (Brad) Williamson, Jacob M. Menton, Amanda C. Menton, and William Connor Menton; his great-nieces and nephews, Emily C. Williamson, Andrew M. Dyas, Hannah L. Dyas, and William E. Dyas. The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 P.M. on Friday, October 12, 2012 from the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mobile Police Department Mounted Auxiliary, 1251 Virginia St., Mobile, AL 36604, the SOMI House, 4351 Midmost Drive, Mobile, AL 36609 or the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Ave., Mobile, AL 36604.
