Velma Sarah Byrd

Velma Byrd – greeted her loving Savior on Monday, June 27, 2011, at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Rufus E. Byrd; daughter, Patricia Byrd Benjamin; son, Phillip Byrd; and grandson, Jack Byrd. Mrs. Byrd is survived by two sons, Ronald E. Byrd (Ramona) and Roger K. Byrd (Delaine); daughter-in-law, Sherry Byrd; son-in-law, Ashley Benjamin; 12 great-grandchildren, Eddie, Frankie, Shelia, Angela, Cheryl, Jessica, Christopher, Jonathon, Timothy, Melodie, Andrew, and Jonah; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She brought joy and wisdom to all who knew her. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, July 1, 2011, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 30, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
