Vergia Winfred Barclay Chandler a lifelong resident of Mobile, lovingly known to everyone as Nana, was born January 19, 1923 to Oscar Louis Barclay and Vergia Lipscomb Barclay. Nana departed our lives on September 20, 2018 at the Scared Heart Residence of the The Little Sisters of the Poor. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Bright Chandler and her precious daughters: Jennifer Chandler Lunceford and Deborah Chandler Waite. She was the youngest of seven siblings.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra Ann Chandler Kercher, six grandchildren: Todd Francis Kercher (Jennifer), Barclay Paige Kercher (Tammy Richardson), Chandler David Lunceford (Michi), Thomas Brandon Lunceford (Hayden), Tracie Waite Vrarbel and Leigh Waite Quinby (Scott), eleven great grandsons: Bennett, Taylor, and Drew Kercher, Bright and Graham Lunceford, Ren and Harris Lunceford, Jaxson Quinby , Aaron Allen, Blake Nicholas, and Zachary Nicholas; three great granddaughters: Hana Sidney Blalack, Caroline Grace Kercher and Charlesten Taylor Quinby.
As everybody’s “Nana”, she truly lived up to the name. She loved her visits with family and friends and you could count on a little Crown after five o’clock. She loved and accepted everyone she met and you could always count on Nana for friendship, advice and support. She always went out of her way to make sure
her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren had what they needed. Nana was a devout Catholic and supporter of St. Jude Hospital.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, from St Pius X Catholic Church at 12:00. The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00 PM. Graveside services will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
A special thanks to Nana’s caregiver Geneva Parrish, who took loving care of “Our Nana” and to Mary Mulroy who faithfully brought her communion each Sunday.
