Verna Pearl McGadney Harris, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 30, 2018. Pearl was born in Prichard, Alabama to Andrew Toby McGadney and Daisy Baldwin McGadney. She loved traveling. One of her excursions to Selma, Alabama she met a serviceman – Willie James Harris – who quickly agreed to take her luggage down and carry it. They married, and as he says, he’s been taking her suitcases ever since.
Pearl was a great homemaker. She was serious about love and what love does. Pearl discretely shared finances, food, clothing, etc., to family and friends. She dearly loved and was committed to her church, serviving as BTU/NBC secretary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Daisy McGadney; her daughter, Linda Renee Harris Burrell; granddaughter, DeShaun Maria Harris; two sisters, Juanita M. Sessoms and Delores Anderson; and brothers, James and Raymond McGadney.
Pearl is survived by her husband of 65+ years, Willie James Harris; her children: Marvin (Bessie) Harris, Phyllis Maria Harris, Gregory Harris, Kenneth (Elaine) Harris, Carl Harris, and Rodrick Harris; 14 Grandchildren: Douglas James Harris Rowe, Nicole Renee Burell (Renaldo)Brooks, Charletta Denise Burrell (George ) Redd, Christina Denise Burrell,Nashannia (Vincent) Hudson, Juan(Shenika) Burton, Kenneth Marquise (Yoshino) Harris, Courtney Harris, and Alexis Hall; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of other cherished family and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Holmes Street Missionary Baptist Church, 316 Max St, Prichard, AL 36610, with Home Going Celebration at 12 p.m. Interment will be in Alabama State Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
