

April 6,1919-August 5, 2016 Vinson Sebastian Huegele, 97, of Mobile passed from this life on August 5, 2016 at the William Green Veterans Home following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean Burkett Huegele, and four brothers and three sisters. He is survived by a son Vince and Sharal Huegele, grandson Benjamin Huegele of Huntsville, AL, nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends and colleagues. Mr. Huegele was born in Rio Medina, Texas and lived there until he entered the military in 1941. He was a charter member of the U.S. Air Force, a veteran of World War II, the European Theater, the Korean War and the Cold War. He was a pilot in the original Hurricane Hunters squadron and had flown missions around the world. He retired from the U.S. Air Force at Brookley AFB in 1964 as a Lt. Colonel. Mr. Huegele also served as a Senior Compliance Officer for OSHA until he retired in 1988. An avid pilot, he always enjoyed flying and traveling with his wife. He was a member of the Regency Church of Christ and attended worship there as long as he was able. Those who knew him well described him as an amazing man because he remained lucid and able to manage his daily affairs well into his nineties. He greatly enjoyed conversations with family and friends who came to visit and will be greatly missed. Visitation for Mr. Huegele is at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday,August 9 ,2016, at Pine Crest Funeral Home, with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., Allan Eldridge and Rick Whittle officiating. Interment at Pine Crest with Military Honors will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mobile Christian School.
