Wendell died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Atmore, Alabama, but was a long-time resident of Mobile, Alabama. Wendell was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He retired from Syngenta in 1997. Wendell was a long-time member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Johnnie Jean James; his parents, Annie Lee and Luther James, Sr.; one brother, Wayne L. James; and son, Wendell Lee James, Jr.
Surviving are his wife, Beatrice James; children, Rhonda Richburg (Ken), William James (Brandy); Dana James (wife of late son); brother, Luther James, Jr. (Bettye); ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Pine Crest Funeral Home in Mobile, with a funeral service in the chapel immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
