You will never know the impact that both you and Wendell have had on my parents, John & Charlene Flournoy, over the years.  Wendell's character was an example worth following for my father, and Sandy's faith through these difficult times has deepened my own walk with the Lord tremendously.  Thank you for being steadfast, and showing my family an example of how to walk through the fire with grace, transparency, unwavering faith and a deep love of the Lord.  Wendell will be truly missed. Dear Dell and family,  So sorry to hear about your father.  I didn't know him personally, but he was a well respected man and will be missed by many in the community.  You and your family are in my prayers.  May God bless you and comfort you through this rough time.

Wendell was a great man.  He was always friendly and willing to share his wisdom. I feel privileged to have known him and honored to have served the home furnishings industry with him.  Our love and prayers go out to the entire Sawyer family.  Wendell, we will miss you.

Wendell and all the Sawyer "kids" were friends of ours growing up in Chickasaw and attending Vigor  High School.  We were in the youth group at Chickasaw Methodist Church and just about every Sunday night after youth, we would pile in Wendell's automobile and head out to Highway 90 to get a burger.  None of us ever had any money, but Wendell always did, and he would get stuck with the bill every time.   I'll never forget on one of those Sunday night excursions Wendell took us by to meet his boss.  I believe his name was Hornsby.  Those were wonderful days in our lives and I remember Wendell fondly during them. My brothers and I purchased my parents' 50th wedding anniversary  gift, a dinette table and chairs, from Wendell at his Prichard store.  I'm sorry we didn't stay in touch with Wendell and your family through the years, but we do see Mack and Elaine at church and Terrell and Carolyn here and there as we live close by. Rick and I first met Wendell and Sandy about 5 years ago--we were new to the NHFA and new to retail as well.  They were both so welcoming and helpful that I did not have to guess that they were from the south. We are grateful for the time that we knew him.

Wendall was more than a business friend, he was a honorable friend. I have had the pleasure of working with Wendall for over 10 years as we served together for the National Home Furnishings Association. I will truely miss his insight and advice he freely gave me over the years. My heart felt condolances go out to Sandy and the family.

Mr. Sawyer looked out for me when I was in need.  Some ten or twelve years ago my car died on the interstate near his Prichard store.  I walked there looking for assistance.  Even though he knew I was not a customer, he took a good portion of his morning making sure I got help and a ride.  I think of him and his kindness each time I drive by the store, as so many others surely do.  We trust and pray that stories such as these, and your own memories, ease your grief at this painful but temporary separation.

Wendell,and Sandy were the first real people with the easy going, welcoming   Southern  spirit that Lisa and i ( Yankees ) had ever met. Wendell was a great man.  He always reached out to people and the more you got to know him, the more you learned.  You can see a part of Wendell in the lives of his family and those that are close to him.  He was a man of God and had a tremendous impact on this earth.  He will always be remembered. My close friend Wendell Sawyer was as genuine as they come.  He treated everybody with respect and honesty.  Connie and I have traveled many, many miles with Sandy and Wendell and laughed every inch of the way.  It could be a business trip or pleasure it did not matter...we had fun and enjoyed each other's company.  I think I know him as well as anyone and can say he was indeed a hard worker but more than that he loved his family and friends and cherished those relationships.  I'm gonna miss Wendell ("Snowball") but will find relief in the memories we created together as best friends.

I will always remember Wendell as a hard worker that loved life to the fullist. I went fishing with him many times and have grown to love the sport as he did. I was very fortunate to have known him and the whole family for years. All of his family are good and gracious people just as Wendall was. I am so sorry for the loss to the family. Wendell's life was a blessing to many. He was a fine, fine, man who was admired and loved by all who knew him. His warm smile and courageous nature were an inspiration. We are so sorry for your loss; please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I was so very sad to get the news about Wendell on Sunday.  The world has lost a great man.  I was fortunate to get to know Wendell and Sandy through NHFA and my mother's involvement on the NHFA Board w/ Wendell.  Wendell was a great business man and very likeable person.  
I have run several marathons in honor of Wendell as he battled cancer.  I will continue to run in his memory through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training Program.  My thoughts, prayers and love go out to all of the Sawyer family.

Wendell was a great friend for many years to me and my wife Pat. His family became an extension of my own. Wendell made a lasting mark on my life, and my love for him will never die. Thanks be to God for the unmeasurable gift of his friendship.
