Former State Senator William Leslie Roberts, Jr., died peacefully, June 22, 2026 at the age of 85. Born in Mobile, Alabama Bill attended public schools and graduated from Auburn University. In 1970 he was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives and in 1974 he was elected to the Alabama State Senate. He spent his entire working life in the healthcare and nursing home industry and served as President of Cogburn Health Services.
Bill loved snakes and had a number as pets. He loved music and was the drummer for the popular local band, the Night Riders, for several years. He also loved and was very active in Mardi Gras. He was a knight in two courts and was Folly for the Knights of Revelry.
Bill was a fun person with a magical sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Leslie and Josie Lee Stevens Roberts, Sr.; and a brother, L. Steven Roberts.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife, Kimberly Gilbert Roberts; a daughter, Molly Roberts, and his sister, Suzanne Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill's memory may be made to a local animal shelter.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Mobile, 806 Government Street, on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM with entombment to follow at Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama.
