William Jerome Roberts Sr.

William "Bill" Jerome Roberts, Sr. -- A native of Pratt City, Alabama and a long time resident of Mobile, Alabama, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at the Sacred Heart Residence, Little Sisters of the Poor. He was 85 years old. Bill, as he was called, was retired from the Fire Protection Sprinkler Business having worked for Automatic Sprinkler Company for 25 years and S & S Sprinkler Company for almost 20 years as their Sales Manager. He loved fishing and working in his garden. Bill was born and raised in Pratt City, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. He attended St. Paul's Catholic High School as well as the University of Alabama, and was an avid Auburn Tigers football fan to the dismay of his family. The Iron Bowl was always an interesting and fun time. Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II and served on several Destroyers. Bill was an extremely devoted Catholic and was a founding member of Corpus Christi Parish. He was the first coach of the Corpus Christi football team along with Bob Burns, and coached them to their first Parochial schools championship. He was the first Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 29 at Corpus Christi School and served on the Parish Council for many years. He is survived by his wife of ten years, Dorothy Robertson Roberts; his children, William Jerome (Kathy) Roberts, Jr., Charles M. (Svetlana) Roberts, Sr., George H. (Sharon) Roberts, Sr., Theresa E. Roberts, and Alice M. (Tim) Muller; grandchildren, William Jerome Roberts, III, Charles M. Roberts, Jr., George H. Roberts, Jr., Dawn Houston, Laura Davis, Alana Davis, Kyle Davis, and Daniel Davis; two great grandchildren; step-children, Glennis (Steve) Macy, Robbie (Fred) Jones and Adrian "Cale" DuVall. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Martha Horne Roberts; parents, Charles H. Roberts and Theresa Mitchell Roberts; brothers, Infant Charles Roberts, Walter Roberts, John Roberts, and Edward Roberts; sisters, Mary Claire Lovoy, Helen Remmert, Elizabeth Roberts; and his youngest son, Joseph D. Roberts. There will be a Rosary said to Mary, the Blessed Mother, on Thursday, July 26, 2012, 4:00 p.m. at Little Sisters of the Poor. Visitation will be Friday, July 27, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6300 McKenna Dr., Mobile, 36608, on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Catholic Cemetery with full military honors rendered at the graveside. Pallbearers are Jerome Roberts, III, Charles Roberts, Jr. Kyle Davis, Daniel Davis, Murray Wiseman, and Fred Jones. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Sacred Heart Residence, Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Ave., Mobile, AL 36604
