

William Matthew Woolley (Bill), born on December 16, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee to James Clifford and Marquit Pendergast Woolley, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Clifford Woolley, Sara Woolley (Legg) and Jody Woolley.
Bill attended Catholic elementary schools then transferred to Humes High School. Upon graduation from Humes High he entered the Memphis School of Art. Bill was drafted prior to his completion and served in the U.S. Army from June 1956-May 1958. While serving he was a gunner and then a cartographer. After completion of his service he settled in New Orleans, LA where he was employed by upscale department stores using his artistic talents through display and design.
While in New Orleans he used his artistic skills with Petronius Krewe and later was a member of the Krewe.
Bill started his career with Gayfers Department Stores in New Orleans where he remained until his retirement. He soon found that retirement was not for him. He became an active supporter of Via Health and Fitness on Dauphin Street.
Bill was an Artist for the rest of his life, always willing to share his talents with up and coming artists, regardless of age or ability.
He will be missed but his legacy will go on forever.
A memorial celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
