

Wilodean Maurin Byrd – a 90 year-old resident of Mobile, AL passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2011. Mrs. Byrd was co-owner and operator of Byrd’s Rollerdrome Skating Rink for 28 years. She and her in-laws built the rink while her husband was serving in the military during World War II. She was a charter member of Manor Baptist Church, faithfully attending services for 54 years and serving the Lord in many capacities. Mrs. Byrd was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Newell J. Byrd; parents, Arthur I. and Claudia Maurin; siblings, Arthur I. Maurin, Jr., Wilifred Maurin, and Henrietta “Buddy” Cain. Mrs. Byrd is survived by two sons, Jack (Jean) Byrd and Jerry (Jane) Byrd; six grandchildren, Portia (Marty) Dooley, Buddy (Rhonda) Byrd, Kari (Mark) Givens, Penny Boswell, Juli (Bill) Reece, and Cori Byrd; two step-grandchildren, Darrell (Donna) McDaniel and Pam (Frank) Spain; 12 great-grandchildren, Kristin (Chad) Dawson, Katie Boswell, Dylan Byrd, Bo Boswell, Noah Dooley, Maurin Dooley, Conner Givens, Sierra Byrd, Sean Givens, Jackson Reece, and Chloe Reece; four step-great-grandchildren, Steffan McDaniel, Ansley McDaniel, Cameron Spain, and Lance Spain; one great, great-grandchild, Jack Dawson; other relatives and friends. The family extends special thanks to her neighbor and caregiver, Rosa Covington. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 4, from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
