Winford, more affectionately known as “Buddy”, was born on July 19, 1947. He was a graduate of Mary G. Montgomery High School class of 1966. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He was married to his wife Dona Young Hinton for 32 years and he was the proud father of 3 daughters and 1 stepson. Buddy was a lifelong member of Tanner Williams Assembly of God where he served the church faithfully for many years. He went on several missions’ trips in his lifetime to Benin, Africa as well as the country of Guatemala. He served on the board of Tanner Williams A/G, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, drove vans for the bus ministry, and served on the church cleaning crew. Buddy retired from CSX Transportation in 2010 where he had worked as a signal maintainer. He enjoyed 12 years of retirement doing the 3 things that he loved, hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents Winford Elliot Hinton Sr. and Miriam Motley Vaughn; his sister Linda Hinton Mason, his brother Phillip Sherrill Hinton, and his daughter Tonya Hinton Lassiter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Dona. His children, Wendy Hinton Miller (Trey), Caitlin Hinton Allen (Caleb), Shane Brantley (Annaleigh) and son-in-law Lavon Lassiter; his grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Malayia Eubanks (Kyle), Jack Miller, Elliot Miller, Solomon Miller, and Caulder Allen; his great-grandchildren, Elijah Eubanks, and Charlie Rae Eubanks. He is also survived by his sister Angela Dossett (Steve), brother-in-law, Daniel Mason, loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A service will be held at Knollwood Church in Mobile, AL on Monday August 29. Visitation will be from 11-1, with a celebration of his home going at 1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Joyner Cemetery on Tanner Williams Road.
