It is with both heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Winifred S. Gale at her home, just days shy of her 102nd birthday. Born on October 1, 1924, in Mobile, Alabama, Winifred's life was a testament to strength, independence, and an unwavering sense of style.
Winifred was the beloved wife of the late Ettrick Henry Gale, Jr., with whom she shared a beautiful life devoted to family. Together, they raised four children, and although preceded in death by their daughter Sandra Marie Gale, Winifred's legacy continues through her surviving children: Richard Wayne Gale, Eric Michael Gale, and Cheryl Gale Mudra (John Mudra). Her life was further enriched by her cherished grandchildren: Ricky Gale, Michael Gale, and Caroline Gale, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Winifred was preceded in death by her parents Jeremiah Shay and Winifred Morton Shay, her brother James Shay, and her sister Ida Rowley, but she leaves behind a loving family who will continue to celebrate her remarkable journey.
A woman of great faith, Winifred was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lillian, Alabama, where she found comfort and community. Her passion for staying informed led her to avidly follow current events and politics, always ready to engage in lively discussions with those around her.
Her family fondly remembers Winifred as a strong-willed and independent spirit, whose elegance shone through in her impeccable sense of style. She exuded grace and dignity, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The Gale family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her dedicated caretakers, Christine, Samantha, Diane, Tonya, and the compassionate team at Southern Care Hospice, whose exceptional care and kindness provided comfort in her final days.
In honor of Winifred's life and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting the spirit of giving that Winifred embodied throughout her life.
