Growing up in California City we were one of the few Filipino families in town.  We were lucky to have The Dumlao's as part of our family, I have so many fond memories growing up with them.  Hanging out at their hardware store, Dumlao Home Center, with Uncle Marc and Auntie Lita, I'd help out with stocking shelves, watering the plants, or just hanging out watching TV.   DesertTortoise Days brought us together as we would help decorate the Dumlao float, a tortoise made from lots of paper flowers.  Weekend trips to Las Vegas was always fun going to Circus Circus waiting for someone to win so us kids could get quarters to win stuffed animals.  And yes, sleeping in the car in the parking lot, not sure why we never got a hotel room.  I also enjoyed  dinner invites to their home...especially when my fave dish was served, ground beef omelettes!  Till this day I crave it but my attempts never tastes the way I remember having it when Auntie made it!  So many great memories with the Dumlao family and am saddened to hear Auntie Lita has passed.  May you Rest In Paradise Auntie, thankful for you, Uncle's, and the rest of the family's friendship, care, and love to  our family while living in Cal City.  Love and Aloha...The Abalos Family.

The first time I went to Las Vegas was with my Ninang, Ninong & Ate` Gemma. I was super excited because we were going to Circus-Circus. After the carnival games closed for the night the only place I could go as a kid was the arcade. Ninang would give a roll of quarters to keep me busy. Sometime after 1:00am (which was extremely late for me) after burning through at least 3-4 rolls of quarters, which was a ridiculous amount back in the day, and after becoming an expert at the video game Q-Bert, I was tired and was ready to sleep. I was given the honor to choose which bed I wanted to sleep on...which was either the back seat or the front seat of the car! It was always fun and loving times whenever I was with Ninang. 
I am going to miss the way you always made me feel like I was your favorite. 

Auntie Lita, you will be forever be in Our Hearts.  As a child growing up in Cal City, very blessed to be a part of the Dumlao Family.  I had the opportunity to be an employee at Dumlao Home Center in the garden dept as a water hose operator, making sure plants were well nourished and other various jobs in store making sure store is ready for next days operation.   When it came to Family time , the Dumlao’s home was always welcoming.  I always enjoyed going to dinner there as a child.  Auntie Lita would always have my favorite dish on the table (hamburger with scrambled eggs).  I thank you Auntie because I have made this dish over the years to this day and now my Girls Love it!

John Abalos and Family

Ninang was such a strong role model in my life growing up. I recently learned that Ninang took care of me the first few months after I was born. It was something I never knew and it warmed my heart. As the years went by and I grew older, Ninang was there for all of my milestones from birthdays and graduations to meeting my first ever boyfriend. I even drove out to California City after I got my license to see her, as long as she promised not to tell my parents I drove all that way alone. I thank her for teaching me how to be a godmother and to unconditionally love someone no matter the time or distance. I will miss you Ninang thank you for loving me like your own and I will continue to pray for your journey......forever "Kate". 

Auntie and Uncle were my first family to meet once my new bride Rebecca Vidad Adams  arrived in Oct 1976 and it has been the best meeting I had and the family that took me in as one of their own.  I got to watch all the girls growing, the grand children also and now two great grand kids.  We traveled on numerous vacations with them over the years from Alaska to that New Years trip every year to "STATELINE" and the best time was getting lost with 11 people in the RV and singing over the PA system as we tried to find our way, which we did.  Always will remember the hardware store and the weddings we attended in Cal City for two of the girls.  We will always be a part of the Dumlao family.  Wish I could include many of the pictures that I have but they only allow one, a sad time but so many friends and family were together and I felt that I always belonged.

Momma Dumlao thank you for welcoming us into your family.  You always may us feel like we were one of your daughters! 

 My favorite memory is Gemma's birthdays when we were young!  We would have to wait 365 days each year to get our Favorite Dish!  You always made us feel like it was our birthday.  You would make each of us Gemma (of course), Laura, Aida, Delia and I our favorite dish!  Mine was Pancet!  A table full of Yum:)  A child hood memory that I will always cherish.  Thank you for Loving us and allowing us to be a part of your wonderful Family!
