Dortha Mae Wiser
“In my life with you I have been many things, but in my life with Jesus I am so much more.”
On June 10th, Boron resident Dortha Mae Wiser began her life of ever-lasting peace in the Kingdom of Heaven. She was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother of four, a grandmother of seven, a great-grandmother of sixteen, an aunt to many, a friend to more, a teacher to us all, and a self-proclaimed “wild-cat”.
Dortha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her second born son. She is survived by her brother, her sister, her sons and their families.
Dortha was born November 14, 1930, in Blue Mountain, Arkansas to Ulysses and Mary Catlett. She was the oldest of three children. In 1947, she married the love of her life Henry Wiser and thus began their 66 years together. In 1952, Dortha and her husband began a brave adventure that led them to a new life in California. Dortha became the proud and devoted mother of their four sons, Henry Lynn, Ronald Franklin, Stephen Grant and James Robert. She thrived in the role of educator as an elementary school classroom aide and a Sunday-school teacher. Eventually she embraced a role in business as a real estate agent and a business owner. Through her stories she taught upstanding values, shared hard lessons and celebrated her family’s Cherokee heritage. Dortha did many things well. Prominently, she enjoyed the talents of a craft maker. She infused her love and hard work into every drop of glue, every brushstroke, every stitch and scrap of fabric sewn. Indeed, there were many.
From her beginnings as a bare-foot wild-cat in “Hog Thief Holler” to her final days, Dortha lived a long, rich life with grace and grit. She exemplified a virtuous path of diligent faith and enduring integrity. She had an adventurous spirit and a fierce love for family. She left a little part of herself in all of them.
