Sedelia was preceded in death by her parents, Clemente and Flora Mirelez; dear husband, Miguel Garcia; her beloved grandson, Allen Flores; siblings: Salamon (Petra) Ramiro, Elizabeth, Anita, Minerva, Ofelia, and Gloria.
Born in Pharr, Texas, Sedelia moved to Chicago as a young girl and settled on the South Side. She met her husband, Miguel, while working at South Shore Hospital, and the two fell in love and married on October 11, 1959. They made their home on the South Side of Chicago, where she later worked at Allied Tube until her retirement.
A woman of deep faith, Sedelia loved God and hosted Bible study in her home for many years. She had a joyful spirit and loved to sing and dance rarely, forgetting the words to a favorite song. An avid thrift shopper, she also enjoyed trips to the casino, volunteering at the soup kitchen and Caring Hands. She had a passion for gardening and could keep a poinsettia alive for years. A devoted fan of Dancing with the Stars and The Voice, she’d often tear up when a contestant sang beautifully. Above all, Sedelia was known for her generous heart and willingness to help anyone in need. She was the best mom, grandmother, sister, and friend — a true heart of gold who made everyone around her feel genuine love.
