He was born on December 22, 1943, in Blue Island, Illinois, at St. Francis Hospital.
Wayne grew up on a farm, often helping care for cows, chickens, pigs, and cornfields. From a young age, he developed a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors, spending his childhood exploring the prairie alongside his close-in-age sister, Lenore. Together, they crossed rivers on logs, explored fields, adopted baby birds, and created memories that would last a lifetime—though Wayne especially delighted in teasing Lenore relentlessly until she protested with a scream.
He fondly remembered watching his eldest sister, Eva, host lively square dances in the family barn while he and Lenore peered from the hayloft above, giggling and wishing for their turn to join the fun.
Wayne’s mischievous spirit revealed itself early in life. Family and friends still laugh at stories of his playful antics, including convincing friends to hold hands near an electric fence while he secretly completed the circuit with a stick—carefully waiting for Lenore to be close to him so she wouldn’t get the worst of the shock. The unfortunate person at the end of the line often got the biggest surprise. Mischievous he was indeed.
Even as a teenager, Wayne was confident and independent, sometimes resisting his father’s carpentry advice before eventually admitting that guidance had its place. He is remembered as down-to-earth and unconcerned with material possessions, finding far greater joy in the natural world than wealth could ever provide.
Wayne had a lifelong passion for birding, conservation, hunting and fishing, travel—especially by motorcycle—and the enjoyment of motion pictures. He was also active in his faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which remained an important part of his life.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper Musson (2013) and Dorothy Musson (1981); his beloved sister, Eva Matros (2002); and his nephew, Richard Matros (1994).
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Charles) Marshall of Wilmington, Delaware; son, Todd Musson of Frankfort, Illinois; grandchildren Ashley (Scott) Delano of River Forest, Illinois, Brittany (David) Holman of Bishop, California, and Courtney (Patrick) Saldaña of Charleston, South Carolina; great-grandchildren Evan Delano, Callum Delano, and Lincoln Saldaña; his sister, Lenore (Steven) Owens; former spouse and friend Linda Ashley, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Wayne will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, playful nature, love of the outdoors, steadfast faith, and the many stories and memories he leaves behind.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, 11:00 A.M. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (4349 N. State Rt. 1, Momence, IL) Skyline Funeral Home and Memorial Park entrusted with arrangements. For information, please call 708-534-8256.
