April 16, 1917 – November 2, 2019
Agnes Lutters died at the age of 102 at Bonaventure Senior Living in Castle Rock, CO on November 2, 2019.
Agnes was born on April 16, 1917 in Stratford, CT to Carl and Andrea Olson. She graduated from Stratford High School and then worked in the Purchasing Department of General Electric in Bridgeport.
In 1938, Agnes married Samuel Lutters and had three children; Lea Tennyson, Kenneth Lutters and Barbara Smith. Her major goal was to live on a lake and that became a reality when their family moved into a house in 1949 that Sam had built on Pinewood Lake in Trumbull, CT. Her daily swims kept her in good physical condition until she was 95 years old. She enjoyed ice skating in the winter and sailing with the family on Long Island Sound in the summer. Agnes loved God, loved life, and loved family and friends – in that order. She had a special rapport with small children and taught three generations of them in Sunday School and VBS at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Trumbull, CT. She spent an hour or more each day in personal Bible study and prayer which resulted in a close relationship with her Savior.
Another passion was foreign missionaries including financial and prayer support, hospitality in her home, and tearing up numerable sheets to make bandages for the Women’s Missionary Society.
Investing their retirement funds into a new motor home and hitting the road satisfied Sam and Agnes’ desire to travel. Much later, a trip to Norway at age 85 allowed her to trace her roots and track down her mountain top family homestead. A stroke at age 95 eliminated her swimming, driving and independent living in CT. She left her beloved home of 64 years, traveled by car to Castle Rock, CO and created a new home in independent living at Bonaventure under the daily care of Barbara, her youngest daughter. Agnes’ radiant personality and ready smile won many friends at Bonaventure and Creekside Bible Church. Her passionate cheerleading at her great grandchildren’s swimming, diving, football and volleyball events won over many others. Her zest for living filled her days with many opportunities in the outside world, all with a ready smile and a sparkle in her eyes.
Agnes is survived by her grandchildren: Kory (John) Coppola, Jennifer Alfieri, Dr. Wayne Lutters, Jeffrey (Rae) Lutters, Brian (Shelly) Smith and Cheryl (Tim) McLeod. Great grandchildren include Renee Coppola, Mindy Stevenson, Adelyn Lutters, Avangeline Lutters, Lindsey Smith, Trevor Smith, Jonathan Smith, Tyler McLeod, Casey McLeod and Caitlyn McLeod. The sole great, great grandchild is Autumn Woods.
Agnes was preceded in death by Samuel Lutters (husband, 1979), Lea Tennyson (daughter), George Tennyson (son-in-law), Kevin Tennyson (grandson) and Dominic Alfieri (grandson-in-law). A Celebration of Life service will be held at Calvary Evangelical Free Church, 498 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT 06611 at 10:00 am on November 22th. Contributions in her honor may be made to Calvaryefc.com.

I have so many wonderful memories of Agnes. The meals we had together, the games we played, our favorite, Othello. I am so grateful for the many hours we talked on the telephone sharing our memories together. Agnes, I hope you find my Mom while you are walking the streets of gold. Tell her how much I want to see her again. Earth is lonely without the two of you. I know that someday we will all be together again

Will always remember, when I was young, spending time with her in the summer. We would just swim all day and just be by the water. Best times.
