Barbara Sontheimer Young
November 12, 1943 – March 27, 2018
Barbara (Bobby) Sontheimer Young, 74, passed away on March 27 following a brief and courageous battle with acute leukemia.
Barbara graduated from Wilton High School and Vassar College. She was a tireless educator and a retired foreign language teacher who taught at Masuk High School in Monroe, CT for more than 30 years. A longtime resident of Monroe, who was also very involved in town activities and local politics, Barbara leaves an indelible impact on the entire Monroe community. A wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, mentoring students and new teachers, and traveling the world.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 52 years, Peter Young, her son and daughter-in-law, Matt Young and Nicole (Pale) Young, her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Young and Gary Warhurst, her grandchildren, Justin Young and Lauren Young, her siblings, Kathy Rovine, Peter Sontheimer and Henry Sontheimer, her stepmother, Shirley Sontheimer, a large extended family, and many friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie Rosenberg Sontheimer, and her father, Carl Sontheimer. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date.
