

Sister Benedict, the former Genevieve Jaskiewicz, of Monroe, died peacefully on March 27, 2013. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, the oldest of eight children born to Francis and Mary (Wojt) Jaskiewicz. Sister attended Nazareth Academy Elementary School and Nazareth Academy High School, Torresdale, PA. Upon graduation from high school, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth on June 6, 1935. Sister earned a BA in Secondary Education from Chesnut Hill College in Philadelphia and a MA in Social Studies from Villanova University, Philadelphia. Sister taught on the Junior high and high school level for 46 years in several schools: St. Stanislaus School, Ozone Park, St. Stanislaus Kostka School, Brooklyn and Holy Cross School, Maspeth NY; St. Stanislaus School, New Haven and St. Mark School, Stratford, CT. Sister also taught in St. Cunegunda School, McAdoo and Nazareth Academy in Torresdale, PA and St. Mary’s School, Worcester, MA. In addition to her years of teaching, Sister was appointed principle at Stanislaus School, Ozone Park, Holy Cross School, Maspeth, St. Mary’s Elementary and High School, Worcester. Sister moved to Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent in Monroe, CT in 1990 where she served as facility manager for the convent for twelve years before retiring. Sister is survived by her sisters Bernice Rose, Celia McGarrigle and Marie Tokarski; brother-in-law, Edward Tokarski, sisters-in-law, Jean and Martha Jaskiewicz; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 2nd , 2013 at 11am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe, CT. Visitation will take place on Monday, April 1st, 2013 from 3pm-5pm at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe, CT. Interment will take place on Wednesday, April 3rd at Community Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. There will also be visitation at Mount Nazareth, Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday from 3pm-4pm.
