Deanna was born April 29, 1939, she was the only child to the late John and Norma Halijak. She spent her childhood in West Allis and Whitewater, Wisconsin where she grew up on her parent’s dairy farm while often working alongside her father. Deanna graduated from Jefferson H.S. in Portland, Oregon. She spent time abroad in Germany and toured Europe as companion to her beloved Tante Roberta, known as “Diamond ‘Lil.” Deanna fondly remembered her work on Lake Michigan’s S.S. Milwaukee Clipper. During this time she met her future husband. Deanna married Robert J. Wade Jr., and the couple settled in Easton, CT, where they raised seven children. A resident of Easton for 56 years, Deanna took immense pride in her rolls as a homemaker, wife and mother, establishing a warm and nurturing home.
Deanna was an energetic woman with a zest for life, expressed through her many passions. A creative and intelligent individual, she explored the world of art with enthusiasm, showcasing her remarkable artistic talent across various mediums. Her instinct for design shone through her oil paintings, crafts, clay sculptures, and her “Victory garden”. An inventor at heart, she channeled her entrepreneurial spirit into starting her own small businesses. Above all, Deanna devoted her life to her children’s upbringing filling their lives with love, numerous opportunities, unforgettable family experiences and tirelessly driving them to their many sporting events and activities. Summers were marked by great fun at the beach in Branford, and boating excursions on the Allegiance throughout Long Island Sound. There were camping trips with family and extended family creating lasting memories. Our Mother was fair, honest, caring, and giving, always seeing the good in people and offering positive encouragement. She was an amazing Mother who loved unconditionally and was immensely loved by her children.
Her grandchildren adored her, cherishing the fun and extravagant adventures she created, such as picnics by the stream and crafting boats to sail down bubbling rivers. Life was always “bigger” with Grandma, whose favorite saying was, “Never fear when Grandmother is here!” she could create anything from repurposed materials. She hosted unforgettable, “out-of-this-world” holiday parties that fostered a deep sense of family and love among the grandchildren.
Most importantly she honored the Lord committing her life to him many years ago. She shared her faith with everyone she met. She prized God’s Word above all else, yearning for her family and others to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Deanna’s greatest pride was her children: Kari Phillips, Robert "Bob" Wade (Barbara), Shawn Wade (Martina), Desiree Wade, Damon Wade (Sarah), Kevin Wade (Sue), Daonne Landgrebe (the late William).
