

Born in Stamford, CT on May 27, 1936, he was the son of Susan (Festa) and Frederick Delfino, Sr. of Stamford, CT. He graduated Stamford High School, Class of 1954. He was employed at Condé Nast Publications after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and worked at learning his craft as a compositor printer. After a brief employment at The New Haven Register he went to work at United Publishing and Printing in Stamford, CT. Before retiring he worked briefly at the Stamford Advocate.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, CT. He was also a member of the Cos Cob Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as secretary. He enjoyed traveling with his wife of sixty years and longtime friends. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends. He enjoyed spending time in Rhode Island with his daughter, son-in-law and his loving grandchildren. He also enjoyed many family trips to Ridgefield, CT and Lodi, NJ to visit close relatives. He loved to chat with everyone and he enjoyed a good story from the “old days.” He had an infectious smile that would draw you in and became fast friends with many people at work and in the community. He was his small family’s patriarch and was a fixture in their daily lives. His grandchildren affectionately referred to him as “Grampy,” a title which he cherished. He was deeply loved by many.
The family would like to send special thanks to his wonderful homecare provided by DanielCare of Stamford, CT. Fred enjoyed his favorite homecare providers, Tina Thigpen of Bridgeport, CT and Yves Blanc of Bridgeport, CT. They had become like family and helped care for him with a special touch that was truly appreciated.
Fred is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Smeriglio) Delfino, daughter Lori-Ann (Delfino) Buchetto and her husband Michael Buchetto, and the three loves of his life, his grandchildren, Brian, Bonnie and Bailey Buchetto. He is also survived by his two sisters, Grace-Ann (Delfino) Buzzeo of Stamford and Linda (Delfino) Kezel of Norwalk. In addition, he is survived by his brother-in-law Thomas Smeriglio of Pinnellas Park, FL and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by both of his parents, Susan (Festa) and Frederick Delfino, Sr. of Stamford, CT, his in-laws, Caroline and Thomas Smeriglio of Cos Cob, CT, his brother-in-law Eugene Buzzeo of Stamford, CT and his sister-in-law Elizabeth (McLeod) Smeriglio of Pinnellas Park, FL.
Friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 5-8pm at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468. Funeral service to be celebrated 12:00pm at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470. Interment will be private.
