Gary was the son of Merwin Wheeler Johnson and Emma Reed Johnson. He graduated from Alfred University as a mechanical engineer. In 1986 Gary opened GRJ Trucking as an owner operator truck driver.
He loved playing basketball and played competitively until age 50. He was a student of nutrition and supplements, helping others in their quest to good living. He enjoyed warm weather activities, going to the movies, sushi, soft serve ice cream and car trips with Giovanna.
Gary is survived by the love of his life and fiancée Giovanna Guerci. He has a sister Susan Johnson, a niece Caitlin Bergin and nephew Joey Bergin and their families.
Gary’s interment will be at the Cutlers Farm - Elm Street Cemetery on Saturday May 2, 2026, at 12 noon. Subsequently, Giovanna will host a memorial service in New York.
