Genevieve Gorelczenko

Genevieve Gorelczenko, 78, passed away on August 15, 2018, at Smilow Cancer Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Greenpoint, NY, daughter to the late Gertrude and Vincent Zelaskowski. She resided in Valley Stream, NY for 40 years before relocating to Shelton, CT.

After the passing of her loving husband John, she reentered the work force in the New Hyde Park School system. Her hard work and dedication allowed her to retire and travel the world, as well as strengthening her bond with family, long term friends and developing new friendship through the local senior centers.

A loving mom and grandma, she is survived by her son John and his wife Lori from Valley Stream, NY, her daughter Donnanne and husband Bob from Shelton, CT and her 3 grandchildren; Jonathen, Jacob and Ella. She also leaves behind her cousin Christine Gillis, her sister in-law Eileen Zelaskowski, brother in-law Walter Gorelczenko and his wife, Marsha as well as a niece, nephews and her longest dearest friends Connie and Terry and their families. She was predeceased by her husband John, and brothers Vincent and Henry Zelaskowski.

Calling hours will be held at Spadaccino and Leo Gallagher Funeral Home in Monroe, CT on Monday August 20, 2018 from 4-8pm. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Lawrence Church in Shelton, CT. Interment services will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 11:00am at Holy Rood Cemetery Westbury, NY.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Yale Smilow Cancer Hospital, New Haven, CT.
