With heavy hearts and deep love, we share the peaceful passing of George Raymond Baker, 83, of Monroe, Connecticut. He passed away on August 3, 2026 surrounded by the love from his beloved wife of 63 years and the family he loved dearly.
Born on November 15th, 1942 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, George was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Florence Baker, brothers James Baker, Ronald Baker, and sister Shirley Ann Greenberg (Arthur). George made his home Monroe, Connecticut for 58 years with his wife Stella Baker.
George grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut and attended high school at La Salette Missionaries in Hartford, CT. While raising three children, George pursued his education part-time over the course of 15 years, earning an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Bridgeport Engineering Institute, a Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management from the University of New Haven, and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of New Haven.
George built a fulfilling career at Harvey Hubbell Inc. Beginning in the mailroom at just 18 years old, he steadily advanced through the company, finishing his career as a Systems Analyst. After 45 years of service, George retired in 2006.
Those who knew and loved George will remember him for his kind demeanor, good-natured wisecracks, and unwavering commitment to his family. Nothing brought him more joy than the time he spent with them. He cherished time traveling with his wife. He was a constant for his children and grandchildren, always offering endless love and support. At home, he enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: a good meal with his family, fishing, gardening, playing cards at the Monroe Senior Center as well as his trips to the Casino.
His legacy will live on with his wife of 63 years, Stella Baker, and their three children: Kathleen Baker; George M. Baker (Moira Baker); and Lorraine Santore (the late Robert Santore) and her fiancé, Michael Mossbarger. He is also survived by the family cat, Chow.
He leaves to cherish his memory his four grandchildren; Rachel Demas (Harrison Demas); Raymond Baker; Geoffrey Santore; Ashley Santore; and his great granddaughter Adeline Demas. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Dominick Ciccia and wife Janice Ciccia.
His presence brought love and laughter to the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468.
A funeral mass will take place on Friday, August 21, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude Parish, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468.
Interment will immediately follow at Long Hill Burial Ground, 53 Middlebrooks Ave, Trumbull, CT 06611.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Perish or the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in George’s memory.
