Gilbert R. Mikita Sr. of Torrington, CT, formerly of Monroe, CT, entered into eternal life on Wednesday September 12, 2012 at the age of 67. Gilbert was born in Bridgeport, CT on June, 8 1945, son of the late Stanley & Irene Mikita I. He was the beloved husband of Lois J. (Ligouri) Mikita and the beloved father of Gilbert R. Mikita II. Gilbert and his loving wife Lois were married for 41 years. A former resident of Monroe, CT for over 30 years, he worked as an auto mechanic for over 35 years, it was his passion in life. Also, he was a master craftsman in the woodworking trade. He was one of the most generous human beings ever, truly one in a billion. He battled with multiple sclerosis for over 40 years, never letting it get the best of him. He was a fighter and hard worker, never complained and always put the needs of others before his own. In addition he is survived by 3 grandchildren - Emma Mikita of Kernersville, NC, Dillon Mikita and Leia Mikita of Sherman, CT along with his loving dog, Sadie of Torrington, CT. He is also survived by his brother, Stanley Mikita II and sister-in-law Marlene Mikita of Ansonia, CT, brother-in-law, George Ligouri, Sr of Stratford, CT and sister-in-law Brenda Silvy and her husband Michael Silvy of Rocky Hill, CT. Survived also by close friend of the family Debbie Aiello of Newington, CT as well as several nieces and nephews. Donations can be made to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society in lieu of flowers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday September 15th at 11:00 am at St. Theresa Catholic Church 5301 Main St Trumbull, CT Interment is private. Friends may visit Friday September 14th, from 4 to 8 PM at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home 315 Monroe Turnpike Monroe.
