Gloria was born in Hackensack NJ, reared in faith by her parents in the Jackson Temple Church of God in Christ. She graduated from Hackensack High School and was employed for over 45 years as an Executive Administrator in real estate, textile and technology companies in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, ultimately settling and retiring in Monroe CT.
Gloria took great pride as the matriarch of the family, the eldest and survivor of four siblings. As for her legacy, she was the proud mother of three sons (1 adopted), grandmother of five, great grandmother (with another on the way), beloved aunt, and a cherished friend. She was firmly rooted in her faith in God, a prayer warrior, and an avid lover of gospel music. She will forever be remembered for her feisty spirit, unrelenting wit, extra tough love, and seemingly ageless beauty. She found joy as the “hip” Nana that relished the latest gadgets, game shows, tabloid talk shows, and a good debate (political or otherwise).
Gloria was predeceased by her late father Elmore Hayes Sr., mother Idenia Hayes, sisters Eva Mae Butler and Delores Hayes Speight, brother Elmore Hayes Jr., and her oldest son David A. Lockett. She was also widowed by Julius A. Lockett Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory her two beloved sons Julius A. Lockett Jr. of Bridgeport CT and Gerald E. Lockett Sr. [KerieAnn] of N. Tonawanda NY, her niece (‘daughter’) Tracey D. Hayes of Monroe CT, five grandchildren (Julius, Desirae, Gerald Jr., David, Kaiden), one great granddaughter (Mariah) and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Her celebration will be held at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe CT 06468. Viewing will take place Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 11am to 1pm; the homegoing ceremony will commence promptly at 1pm, with cremation following. A private reception for immediate family will be held at 3pm.
