Harold Eugene (Gene) Brady Jr. passed away peacefully at the Masonic Care of Newtown on September 29, 2011 where he received loving care. A native of West Hartford, CT, he was the son Harold E. and Rachel Roberts Brady Sr. Mr. Brady proudly served in the 3rd US Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) of the United States Army. He managed several F. W. Woolworth stores during his 40 year career and truly loved working with his colleagues and public.
Gene was very proud of his Irish heritage, and he was a lifelong Red Sox fan. He was an intrepid traveler who loved to explore new places with his beloved wife, Amy. Together, they made many trips to Hawaii and throughout Europe. Wherever they traveled, and despite not always knowing the local language, they always rented a car and enjoyed the challenge of navigating their way and discovering local attractions.
Harold was a caring, loving, giving husband, father, and grandfather. “Pa” was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Matilda and Margaret, who brought him great joy regardless of the moment. Even as Pa became physically infirmed, he delighted in their companionship, and hearing stories about their school successes, love of animals, and childhood escapades.
Harold was a very generous volunteer with his time and talents, supporting his church among many other organizations. The local homes and orphanage always knew that they had a friend in Woolworth’s that they could count on to help make the children and resident’s lives brighter.
Gene was predeceased by his beloved brother, Enoch. He is survived by his wife Amelia (Amy) of Monroe, his loving son Timothy Brady of Easton, daughter-in-law Bernadette, grandchildren Matilda and Margaret, all of Easton and sister-in-law Viola of Avon, CT. He also leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.
