

Retired Avco/Lycoming Fire Marshall
Bridgeport – Howard B. Davidson, age 97, of Trumbull passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT. surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Parsons Davidson, of Trumbull. They celebrated their 76th Wedding Anniversary in October 2011. He is also survived by a daughter, Elizabeth and husband, Carl Sword, of Monroe, and his two sons, Howard B. Davidson, and his wife, Carol, of Naugatuck, and Charles H. Davidson and his wife, Sonia, of Las Vegas, NV. Also 9 grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Davidson was born March 17, 1914 in Bridgeport and was pre-deceased by his father, George H. Davidson, his mother, Viola Hair Davidson Baker, his step-father Andrew Baker, and his sister, Alberta Waite.
He was a Trumbull resident for many years and attended Bullard Havens Tech in the 1930’s.
He retired from Avco/Lycoming, Stratford, as Fire Marshall and was an active member serving on state and national positions with the National Fire Chiefs Protective Association. He worked for many years in industrial security starting in the early 1940’s as a guard with The Bridgeport Brass Company, leaving that position as a lieutenant. He was also a route supervisor with Borck and Stevens Bakery. His community service included Boy Scouts and the Edison School Father’s Club. He was Director of the Trumbull Ground Observer Corps in the 1940’s and later Civil Defense Director for many years. Howard acted as moderator for voting at the time of Eisenhower’s election as president. He and his family attended the inaugural parade in Washington, D.C.
As an active member of the First Baptist Church, Bridgeport, he was a trustee and chairman of the Board of Deacons. He was the principal organizer in the creation of Washington Heights Senior Housing sponsored by the First Baptist Church. In his later years, he and his wife were very grateful for the caring support from the Monroe United Church and Rev. Kregg Gabor.
Mr. Davidson and his wife, Sylvia, loved to travel with a camping trailer. Destinations included Nova Scotia, California, many national parks, and places of interest throughout the country. They traveled to the British Isles three times. During their retirement years, they enjoyed many winters in the Florida Keys and warmly welcomed and encouraged visits from family members. They included their many grandchildren in their trips around the country.
The family wishes to thank Howard’s compassionate and skilled medical team: Drs Goldfarb, Ranno and Gupta, Dr. William FitzGerald, Dr. Sackstein, Dr. Manjoney, Dr. Bernard, Dr. Luciano, Dr. Maiocco, and J.Leo. In addition, the wonderful nursing staff on seven and nine north at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
Family will receive friends in the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468 from 3:30pm-5:30pm and 6:30-8pm on Friday, January 13, 2012.
