

Jose L. Dantas, age 77 of Monroe, beloved husband to Estefania Dantas for 53 years died peacefully, November 4, 2010 in his home surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family. He was the son of the late Alfredo and Balbina Dantas. He is survived by his loving daughter Lucia DeAndrade and husband Antero and their children Charlene and Jonathan of Monroe, also a son-in-law Americo Texeira and his children Andrew-Miles and Mikaelah also of Monroe, two sisters Maria Dantas and Angelina Pereira of Bridgeport, a nephew Jose Manuel Periera and his wife Fatima of Monroe, a nephew Charlie Dantas of Bridgeport, a niece Maria Guadagno and husband Aldo of Bridgeport, a niece Grace Dias and husband John of Seymour. Also, a sister-in-law Aurora Pedreira and husband Manuel of New Jersey and brother-in-law Antonio Barreira and wife Theresa of Trumbull, and several nieces and nephews and several nieces and cousins from Canada. He was predeceased by a daughter Isabel Dantas-Texeira.
He served in the Portuguese Armed Forces. At age 25 he moved to Canada where he lived for 10 years. In 1967 he became a resident of the USA to live the American Dream. He lived in Bridgeport for 21 years, and lived in Monroe for 22 years. He was a member of the Laborers’ International Union Local #665. He was employed by several construction companies including J.M. Rosa Construction, Dalling Construction, and Barrett Construction. He enjoyed his home and being with his family. He loved sitting on his front porch, especially when he knew his grandchildren were coming to visit. He loved fishing with his grandchildren and taking rides to the beach to take walks, sit and listen to the ocean waves and watch sunsets. He also loved listening to Portuguese music and traveling to Portugal. The family would like to give special thanks and is especially grateful for the care and compassion of the Connecticut Hospice Home Care.
