Josephine C. Kilcoyne, age 100, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13th, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late James M. Kilcoyne, Sr.. Born in Branford, CT on September 8, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Cosmo and Maria Carullo. Josephine was a proud captain of the Branford High School Girls Basketball team, graduating in 1935.
Josephine attended Pratt Institute, in Brooklyn, NY, where she received her Degree in Fashion Design. She began her career as an employee of the Singer Company in Hartford, where she taught sewing courses. It was here that she met her beloved husband Jim. She was also a home economics and dressmaking teacher at the Long Lane School in Middletown, CT.
The family moved to Monroe in 1955, where she resided for over 60 years. She began working at Masuk High School as a substitute teacher, eventually becoming a secretary in the main office, until her retirement in 1990. Her love for basketball persisted for her entire life, and she was a loyal fan of “her girls”, the UCONN Women’s Basketball team. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid reader, and greatly enjoyed swimming, which reminded her of her childhood on Long Island Sound.
Surviving relatives include her children, Maria K. Capasso and her husband Alan of Shelton and Dr. James M. Kilcoyne, Jr. and his wife Beverly of Jacksonville, FL, three cherished grandchildren Christina Jamerson, and her husband Jason of Shelton, Jeffrey Capasso and his wife Meghan of Arlington, VA, and Patrick Kilcoyne of Jacksonville, FL, and great grandson Dylan Jamerson.
In addition to her husband of more than 20 years, she was predeceased by her brother Paul Carullo of Torrington, CT.
Friends are invited tot St. Stephen’s Church, 6948 Main St., Trumbull on Saturday April 21, 2018 at 10:00 am for a of Celebration of Life. Interment will be private at St. Agnes Cemetery Branford, CT.
