Karen Torres was born at Fort Carson, Colorado on January 22, 1963. The family moved to Connecticut in 1972. She is survived by her mother Erika Vogel of Monroe and her father Angelo Torres of Naugatuck, her brother Christopher Gonzales of Bridgeport, her sister Alexandra DaSilva of Seymour, her step-brother Aaron Torres and her step-sister Gloria Torres of West Hartford, her godson Dominic DaSilva of Seymour, her niece Samantha DaSilva of Seymour, her aunt Doris Braehler of Germany, her aunt Elsa Perez of Naugatuck, her grandfather Angel Torres of Puerto Rico, and numerous cousins.
She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Domingos DaSilva, Jr., her grandmother Maria Isabel Torres and her Uncle Richard Braehler.
Karen was a graduate of Kolbe Cathedral High School of Bridgeport. She earned associate degrees from Norwalk Community College and Post University and a bachelor’s degree from Post University. She was employed at the Department of Social Services as a fraud investigator.
Karen was an avid equestrian, earning many recognitions and awards. She also enjoyed working with other animals by volunteering her time as a docent at Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport. She was very devoted to her family. Karen loved to travel, learning about different cultures and traditions. Karen was a communicant of St. Jude Church in Monroe. Viewing hours will be Friday, July 6, 2012 from 4pm-8pm at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 7 at 10am at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. Burial will follow Mountain Meadows, Seymour, CT
