Kathleen Therese Moser (nee Lecesne) passed away on January 19th, 2013 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, Fairfield, CT. Born on New Year’s Day 1917 in Kingston, Jamaica, B.W.I., she was the daughter of Ruby Branday and Ambrose Sylvester Lecesne. She spent her early childhood at the family plantation, Harkers Hall, St. Catherine’s Parish, with older sister Dorothy and younger brother Arthur. She attended the Convent of the Immaculate Conception in Kingston for 11 years, graduating with a diploma from Cambridge University. At age 17, she and her sister came to the United States. Living and working in New York, Kathleen was a bilingual secretary for a number of import-export and insurance companies. She became a US citizen in 1943. During her career at ITT, she met William E. Moser, Director of Administration for South American Communications. They married on June 8, 1957 in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The following year, they welcomed their daughter Diane Marie.
Kathleen loved the theatre, the Sunday New York Times Magazine crossword puzzle, and Shakespeare. She experimented in French cooking with great success, relished British sitcoms, fashion, bridge, embroidery, and the requisite Gin & Tonic at 5 PM.
As much as she embraced her adopted country, she never hesitated to describe herself as a “former British subject”. Her gracious disposition, reserve, and understated elegance were signature features of her character. Above all, her kindness, sweet nature, and unconditional love endeared her to all who knew her.
Kathleen relied on her faith to overcome the loss of her husband, mother, sister and brother who predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Moser McCann, granddaughter Kathryn Werner, both of whom she was especially proud, son-in-law David McCann, nieces Dorothy Lecesne Rupp and Lorraine Lecesne Whittington, nephews James Lecesne and Robert Lecesne, great nephew Thomas Arthur Whittington, step-son William Moser, Jr. and step-daughter Lyn Soja. She was predeceased by her previous son-in-law Philip K. March. She was especially fond of her stepchildren, Duncan March, Vickie Finley, and Erica March Menard. In her later years she was graciously welcomed into the family gatherings of extended McCann family.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Spring Meadows Assisted Living who loved their resident and the K3 staff at the Jewish Home for their outstanding service and care.
Friends and family may attend visiting hours at the Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, on Wednesday, January 23rd from 4 to 8 PM.
