Lillian Wilton, 92, of Monroe CT died Sunday at the Masonic Lodge in Newtown where she was a resident the past couple of years. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Wilton in Feb 2008. Lil was born in Dickson City, outside of Scranton PA. She was the daughter of the late Mathew and Mildred Broad.
She moved to Connecticut when she was 20 years old and worked at the Bridgeport Brass for 25 years. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Charlie. They were together for 63 years, and celebrated their 60 wedding anniversary in 2007.
Lil and Charlie were members of the Monroe Congregational Church where they faithfully served thru out their lives and filled in wherever needed. Lil’s favorite ministry was overseeing the Sunday Coffee Hour, which she faithfully served with other ladies for many years. She can be remembered at the ticket booth at the yearly Strawberry Festival dressed in her strawberry dress with her cheerful smile selling tickets for strawberry shortcakes. She was a lifetime member of the Women’s Circle and served on numerous boards and committees. Lil and Charlie did everything together and had a reputation of visiting and helping others in need.
Lil loved the Lord and followed him as her Lord and Savior. She was one of the most grateful people you would ever meet. Whenever asked how she was doing she would say fine, no matter what her situation, and had a difficult time asking for any type of help.
Lil is survived by her two sisters Emily Clark, Baltimore Maryland; Violet March and, Stratford CT; a brother Ronald Broad and his wife Dorothy, Dickson City PA; nieces and nephews. She often spoke fondly of their many friends, namely Meredith Ripley and Lori Sippin.
